Sage Burgener Olympic Lifting Clinic at CrossFit San Elijo

CrossFit San Elijo welcomes Sage Burgener for an Olympic Lifting Seminar on Sunday, August 9th, from 9AM-230PM. This will be an excellent time to polish your skills, or learn great habits early in your Olympic Lifting career with Crossfit.

First, a preface from Coach Greg Glassman:

"The CrossFit Program was developed to enhance an individual’s competency at all physical tasks. Our athletes are trained to perform successfully at multiple, diverse, and randomized physical challenges.... We also place a heavy emphasis on Olympic Weightlifting having seen this sport’s unique ability to develop an athletes’ explosive power, control of external objects, and mastery of critical motor recruitment patterns......"The Clean and Jerk, and the snatch, the Olympic Lifts, present the toughest learning challenge in all of weight training. Absent these lifts, there are no complex movements found in the weight room. By contrast, the average collegiate gymnast has learned hundreds of movements at least as complex, difficult, and nuanced as the clean and snatch. In large part because most weight training is exceedingly simple, learning the Olympic lifts is for too many athletes a shock of frustration and incompetence"--CrossFit Journal #25, Sep. 2004

For those of you that aren't aware, the Burgener Surname is synonymous with excellence in Weightlifting Coaching. Her Father, Mike Burgener, can arguably be credited with reviving the sport of Weightlifting, by introducing sound Olympic Lift Training to Legions of CrossFitters.

Sage Burgener has a passion for Olympic-style weightlifting that began in her two car garage at the age of four and has continued for fourteen years. Recently deciding to take some time off from competing, Sage hopes that she can spend her time giving back to those striving to lift at a competitive level, or simply looking to improve overall as an Olympic weightlifter or CrossFitter.

Growing up in a family with a strong athletic background; one brother holding many American records in the sport of weightlifting, one brother actively serving in the military, and one brother playing baseball at the University of Sioux Falls, Sage is determined to add to the success of her family by using her keen eye for technique to help improve the Olympic weightlifting side of CrossFit.

Through her twelve years of competing in the sport, Sage has experienced the mental rigors of sport and feels that CrossFit is a great way to gain mental toughness. She loves pushing people to their physical limits to help them discover what they're capable of, and feels that CrossFit's wide range of functional training is the best way to do so.

Sage has traveled the nation shadowing her father, Mike Burgener, at CrossFit Certifications, and she hopes to pass on the knowledge she has gained to CrossFitters around the world

Leading up to Sage's Appearance, we'll coincidentally be doing skill transfer work, focusing on virtuosity in the Overhead Squat, Front Squat, Air Squat, Deadlift, First Pull (different than the Deadlift ) Press, Push Press, and Push Jerk.

When: Sunday, August 9th
