"There's no thrill in easy sailing ... but there IS satisfaction that's mighty sweet to take, when you reach a destination that you thought you'd never make."— Spirella

"CrossFit has been an integral part of my life for over 5 years. From day 1, I drank the Kool-Aid. I had been an athlete for 10 years, thought I was fit, and then realized I wasn’t during my first CrossFit workout when homemakers were breezing and chatting their way through when I was gasping and barely finishing. Seeing a Navy SEAL push himself so hard that he had to throw up, man, I was hooked. My competitive nature sparked and I just had to do it.

As of my first workout, I have dedicated myself to CrossFit, pushing myself harder and harder, attending certifications and seminars to broaden my knowledge, and finally to training others who share the same dedication to their health and their fitness. Seeing someone discover CrossFit for the first time is so fulfilling, but nothing can beat guiding and training them along their path to elite athleticism.

My goal is to facilitate your goals, to push you to get to where you want to be, to make fitness a part of your life, to make your life richer, and to show you what you can accomplish when you set your mind to it."

"I consider sacred the bond of trust that develops over time with a client, forged by sound direction and results.

My earliest experience with fitness that I can remember had to be as a kid, having boundless energy, not wanting to come home for dinner, pumping away on the bmx bike after a healthy round of dirt clod fights with my friends.

I grew up in the Desert area south of Palm Springs, and skated in pools, went to Big Bear during the cold weather, was on the swim team, little league, and AYSO soccer league. Playing tight end in football through the high school years gave me my real first taste to what conditioning looked and felt like, and I developed a taste for racquetball, being sponsored by Ektelon as a doubles player before joining the Marines--a journey into what CrossFit likes to call, "The Combat Athlete."

After leaving the Military, I re-entered school, finishing with degrees from the University of California, Irvine--Molecular Biology/Biochemistry and Philosophy. In Biology, I concentrated on "pattern formation"-- an emphasis in developmental biology that delves into the intricacies of how early gene cascades lead to more complex structures--how does an eye become an eye? In Philosophy, I had a deep fascination about the way that we think, more important, how does language capture the world that we live in? How do our symbolic representations of the world relate to our neural structures? What is biologically determined?

My first taste of what CrossFit had to offer came on a early morning when I entered a group workout with two homemakers, who, after the first rest period were chatting lightly, while I was outside coming back to earth... I knew it was for me. I cancelled my gym membership the same day, and have never looked back. It's hard to believe that was about 5 years ago!

I've been fortunate to have been mentored by some of the best in the CrossFit Universe--coaches that model what excellence in training is--Jason C. Brown RKC, CrossFit Philadelphia/Urban Athlete/Kettlebell Athletics, Pamela MacAltree, RKC, CrossFit Philadelphia/Urban Athlete/Kettlebell Athletics, John Houghland at the University of Pennsylvania, Olympic Lifts. It's been a pleasure training on both Coasts, and I've met some damn wonderful souls along the way. Being in the CrossFit Community has allowed me to form alliances with a network of professionals that have accelerated my development from near and afar: Sage Burgener, Jeff Martone, James Fitzgerald (OPT), Cheryl Cohen (Desert CrossFit), Rory McKernan (CrossFit HQ), and Shawn Mozen at Agatsu.

And, of course, the man who continues to demystify strength and conditioning for the masses: Greg Glassman, founder of CrossFit.

My Goals as Owner/Trainer: Sponsor a CrossFit San Elijo Team to enter the CrossFit Games. Sponsor a team from CrossFit San Elijo to enter the Camp Pendelton Mud Run. Get Everyone Pullups. Witness an athlete who never knew what Olympic Lifts were prior to walking in the door Clean and Jerk Bodyweight.

My Personal Goals: Break 90 on the Golf Course. Trade my skis in for a snowboard. Get my mountain bike dirty. Be a Great Husband, and a Great Father. Cook More. Read More. Pray More. Achieve excellence in training my clients. "

Favorite Training Maxim: "It's not about my Fran time, it's about my Client's Fran Time."
